South Carolina is aiming to come the 10th undefeated public champion in Division I women’s council basketball history and join USC, Tennessee and UConn as the only Division I women’s brigades with successive public crowns.

A third public title for Staley would make her the fifth head trainer to win three public titles, joining a short list of some of the game’s most elite trainers – Mulkey, VanDerveer, Auriemma and Pat Summitt.

At the same time, a loss would n’t dwindle the greatness achieved by this South Carolina platoon. In a sense, that’s the beauty of forging a program erected to last. South Carolina is now anticipated to contend for a crown every season. Staley has shown as important.

“ Dawn has demonstrated that she knows what the design is for not only creating a winning season but a winning program, ” Peck said.

And if that third title does be to travel back to South Carolina?

“ I suppose it’s trending towards dynasty, ” Laney said. “ I suppose she’s going to be erecting a dynasty down there in South Carolina.”
